EoSDH (Ethernet over SDH)

This is a technology that efficiently maps Ethernet frames into SDH Virtual Containers (Vcs), which in turn are transported through the EoSDH network and delivered as Ethernet frames from the EoSDH network.

Benefits of this technology include:

  • An Ethernet services interface which is lower cost that the traditional E-1, E-3 or STM-1, thus lowering an operator’s capital expenditure.
  • An interface type that can span a broad range of access speeds, removing thee need for site visits to provide service upgrades and thus lowering a WTL customer’s operational expenses.
  • Flexible bandwidth allocation to WTL customer down to steps of 2 Mbit/s, as opposed to the usual step in PDH/SDH: E-1 to E-3 to STM-4. This not only used the network more efficiently but also allows WTL customers to expand the service offering and improve competitiveness.
  • A new protection capability through a feature called Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS) that can effectively double network capacity when compared to traditional SDH protection.
  • More efficient utilization of the network and more network flexibility through Virtual Concatenation when compared to traditional Contiguous Concatenation.
